Painting depicts refugees from the southern highlands of South Vietnam being transported to re-location camps during the early years of the War. Many of these villagers were from the Koho tribes of Montagnards. Mostly apolitical, they paid a heavy price for simply wanting to stay out of anyone's war.

Fine Arts studies and a Vietnam Combat Artist assignment backs up my long career as an illustrator, designer and art director in the Washington, D.C. area. Over the years, my artwork has been displayed at the White House, Pentagon, U.S. Park Service and the National Air & Space Museum. Now semi-retired from the commercial scene, I take great pleasure in creating art of my own choosing without any agency demands. Favorite subjects now include scenes of Key West, Florida, rural Tennessee and my personal images of Vietnam. 1st Place winner in the first annual Johnson City Veterans art show 2013 "The Creative Warrior." 2010 "Great Smoky Mountains "Wildflower Artist Of The Year." Some commisssions accepted, particularly those of a...

Bob one of our sister companys had three or four Montagnards that would accompany them into the bush. I can`t remember what, if any, capacity they served in. I heard some of our guys say these were the only group of people they would trust in `Nam. Their loyalty and dedication were second to none. It was also said there was no love loss between them and Charley. Getting these folks away from the Vietcong was a highlight of the conflict....great painting Bob

I remember the Montagnards well. I even brought home one of their crossbows and quiver of bamboo arrows. This is a brilliant painting Bob as are all of your works. History is going to treat you favorably........Dave
Bob George replied:
Thanks so much Dave. I remember that day so well. I was taking pics while the ARVNs were herding those poor people into the Chinooks. It was an unusually cold windy day and they were terrified as they seemed to have no idea where they were going.
