Scene depicts a soldier from the 458th Transportation Company in action on the Saigon River during waterways clearing duty. Gunner is using what is now the M19 grenade launcher. Basically, this was part of the Army's navy force in 1968. The inspiration for the painting was the time I spent with this outfit during my combat art tour in Vietnam.

Fine Arts studies and a Vietnam Combat Artist assignment backs up my long career as an illustrator, designer and art director in the Washington, D.C. area. Over the years, my artwork has been displayed at the White House, Pentagon, U.S. Park Service and the National Air & Space Museum. Now semi-retired from the commercial scene, I take great pleasure in creating art of my own choosing without any agency demands. Favorite subjects now include scenes of Key West, Florida, rural Tennessee and my personal images of Vietnam. 1st Place winner in the first annual Johnson City Veterans art show 2013 "The Creative Warrior." 2010 "Great Smoky Mountains "Wildflower Artist Of The Year." Some commisssions accepted, particularly those of a...

They were similar to our M79s as far as firing pin assembly and barrel but were hand-cranked and belt fed. The boat crews really liked this weapon.

Same 40mm round during that time. The current version is the M19 with a different round (I think). In '68 when I spent time with this outfit, these guys were adapting their own mounts. The Honeywell Corp. who developed the weapon was surprised to see this army ingenuity at work when I brought back the original sketches. The alternate title to this painting is "Thump, Thump, Thump" and you surely recognize that sound.... So glad you like this one Dave.

I never got to see one of these grenade launchers in action until now. Thanks for the enlightenment Bob....Were these 40 mm`s like the "bloopers' our outfit carried? This painting is another masterpiece by one of todays top artists. AWESOME

CONGRATULATIONS, Bob!~This painting is Administrator's Choice of the Week in the group, Old MASTERS--Painters and Traditional Arts. This is such an emotive and realistic work of art. v/f and facebook promotion as well as feature.
Bob George replied:
Thanks so much Lenore for the feature spot. This outfit never got the attention they deserved during the Vietnam war. Maybe they will now with your gracious attention. Bob
